A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is a driver's license required in the United States to operate any type of vehicle which has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 lb (11,793 kg) or more for commercial use, or transports quantities of hazardous materials that require warning placards under Department of Transportation regulations, or that is designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver. This includes (but is not limited to) tow trucks, tractor trailers, and buses. |

Are You Thinking about Being a Truck Driver?
You ask, "Do you think I'd be any good driving a truck?" and I'll answer, "Can you take a joke?" If you can take a joke, we'll go on with this discussion. If not, go home and forget it. You don't have what it takes. You need to be able to think on your feet, make quick decisions and know for yourself, what's what. So take that attitude from the get-go. You need to understand all road signs, be able to read a street sign (even in the dark) and you need to know what's it's like to haul around an extra 200 pounds on your own ass.
